Friday evening was rainy and dreary. I was tempted to pick up take out and stay in but am really glad C convinced me otherwise. We headed out in the pouring rain for Mexican and it was delish. I've been craving Mexican food this whole pregnancy and this was the first we'd had it in months. Thank goodness O is getting better at going out to eat and sitting still. (Surely it wasn't the chips and dip plus juice that made for a successful dinner. yep, parents of the year) whatever it was we were happy to have dinner as a little family with a toddler being relatively well behaved.
Saturday was spent cleaning and purging followed by more cleaning and purging. Claire's room aka the guest room is officially emptied and ready for paint and refinishing the floors. We also moved the guest bed into Owen's room. Of course he thought this was great fun and proceeded to play the "whoa" game 50 times over. This is where he stands/runs/jumps on the bed and makes himself fall and says "whoa" over and over again. Obviously he's ready to transition to the big boy bed, right? It's not happening yet ( I keep telling myself) but soon enough.
Saturday afternoon the weather was gorgeous and we decided it was the perfect time to take Owen on his first camping trip. We loaded up the Jeep with all of our junk and were off to the Sam Houston National forest. No road trip in Houston is complete without a traffic jam and a little detour but luckily we still arrived with time to spare before sunset. O seemed to know something adventurous was up and as soon as we made our way to our "campground" (random spot in the woods/ hubs doesn't really do campgrounds he prefers being by ourselves in the middle of nowhere.) he was off exploring. It's funny because in daily life around people, O always stays pretty close to me. He's a shy boy until he warms up or is familiar with his surroundings. But out here he was off...ready to explore.
After the fire was roaring we were ready to warm up dinner. Baked potato soup I had prepared earlier in the day. It was actually pretty perfect camping food. With a little chill in the air and the fire going we were pleasantly surprised with our little camping trip. I was of course looking forward to s'mores from the moment we arrived, thinking O would be in heaven with this new experience. Insert real life- by this time he was tired, cranky and into "honking" my nose rather than the marshmallow roasting.
It had gotten pretty chilly and we were ready to cuddle up in the tent and make the toddler whining stop. With the exception of not having a bathroom...all in all it was a good night.
The best thing about camping is waking up in the morning to the beautiful sunrise and the feel of the brisk air. Seeing all of God's beauty in nature and my sweet little family filled my heart to the brim. After a long walk we packed to head home. O fell asleep within minutes of being in the car so C and I decided to drive around and do a little discovering. We found a lake with a little beach entrance that will be perfect for summer swimming. After a late breakfast at none other than Cracker Barrel we were on our way back home.
Sunday afternoon was spent napping, cleaning and relaxing -ending with a little date night in with my hubby, Thai food, and Walking Dead.
Hope you all had a wonderfully blessed weekend. We'd love for you to link up your mommy and me picture with us sometime during the week. Here's a little reminder as to why we started the link up.
And is any one else doing the She reads Truth Study? So good, friends.
