Today my little guy is 17 months old. Wait, what? When did this happen? I'm not sure but it is happening and he continues to grow and flourish and for that I am so thankful. Although he has changed so much in the last 5 months, he is still very much my baby and is a sweet, loving, shy, happy boy full of energy and life. It's been awhile since I've done an update on all things Owen. I love doing these little updates and looking back over the past month and how he's change. Just yesterday Clark and I were discussing what words we know Owen uses consistently and appropriately which prompted this post. I try not to obsess over Owen's speech and language development too much, but I must say it has been so much fun watching his development firsthand. Here's a look at what he's saying, doing, liking, and loving as we roll into 17 months.
Communication: Owen is communicating with gestures and single words. He is quite good at getting his point across and letting us know his wants and needs. He can follow one step commands with out a gesture when familiar vocabulary and familiar spatial terms are being used. For example, I know he understands- up/down, in, and on. Expressively he is consistently and appropriately using the following words:
Hi, Bye, Boo, Papa, Mama, Mar-Mar/Marley, Gog/Dog, Cat, Shoe, Truck, Jeep, Train, Pat-Pat, Ball Choo-Choo, Go, Eyes, Nose, Hot, Bug, No, Key, Car, Out, Uh-oh, Duck, bite, book, Uh/up. He has just started imitating the words "sit" and "thank you." He signs "more," and "all done," consistently the others are hit or miss. He loves to imitate dogs barking, and makes the cutest little "ruff- ruff" sound.
